Learn how to craft clear research questions, compelling arguments, and cohesive visuals for the doctoral defense. Discover strategies to handle tough questions and present with confidence.
Date: Wednesday, April 30 Time: 9:00 - 15:30 Location: MPI-IS Tübingen Trainer: Dr. Charley Wu
They say the best defense is a good offense, and your PhD defense is no exception. This workshop will guide you through crafting clear and compelling research questions, building strong arguments, and using visuals to tell a cohesive story. You'll also learn techniques for handling tough questions and defending your work with confidence.
More about our Trainer: IMPRS-IS faculty member Dr. Charley Wu is the PI of the Human and Machine Cognition Lab at the University of Tübingen. Before leading the lab, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University, working with Fiery Cushman and Sam Gershman. His research focuses on how humans learn efficiently under uncertainty, transforming complex problems into compressed representations for rapid inference and generalization. Combining statistical and machine learning models with biologically inspired multi-agent systems, his work spans topics such as exploration guided by generalization and social learning in collective environments, uncovering the computational principles underlying human learning and decision-making.
